Find Out If a Face Lift Will Be Right for You
What is a Face Lift
Face lift surgery is performed to tighten skin on a patient’s face and neck.
A face lift will not stop the aging process. However, it reduces visible aging signs by:
- Removing excess fat
- Tightening underlying muscles
- Re-draping face and neck skin
Face lifts range in size from mini to standard.
What to Expect Before and After a Face Lift
Before face lift surgery, most patients still have some elasticity in their necks and faces. Sometimes, they still have strong and well-defined bone structure. However, candidates for the procedure experience visible wrinkling and sagginess.
After a face lift, patients will have a smoother-looking face and neck. Jowls and deep creases between the mouth and base of the nose will also be gone. Overall, the patient will look younger and less tired.
A patient’s face will continue to age with time, but the procedure’s major effects are long-lasting.

Frequently Asked Questions about Face Lifts
Patients meet Dr. Sleightholm and a qualified consultant for a consultation. Together, you will discuss your expectations and desired outcomes. This conversation helps determine the procedure’s potential results.
Dr. Sleightholm will begin by making an incision within in the hairline or along the hair margin. The incision runs above the ear, extending down around the ear lobe, and ends below the hairline. The incision is hidden behind the ear.
The patient’s facial skin and neck muscles are tightened. Excess skin is removed. Stitches secure tissue layers and close the incision.
These conditions will disappear after a few weeks.
Dr. Sleightholm hides the incision above the hairline and behind the ear. Scarring is not visible and quickly heals.
Patients receive face lifts while under general anesthesia. After the procedure, you may feel moderate pain. However, it is easily controlled with pain medication.
There are certain risks associated with face lifts. Thankfully, they are rare and you can contact Dr. Sleightholm with any concerns.
Procedure-related risks may include:
- Wide Scar Behind the Ear:In some cases, patients may have a scar behind an ear that is wider than they expected. Due to the position of this scar, it is not noticeable.
- Temporary Numbness:After a face lift, patients may have temporary facial numbness. When this occurs, it typically only lasts for a few months.
- Hematomas:Patients uncommonly get hematomas. Should they develop, Dr. Sleightholm will drain them.
Within two weeks, Dr. Sleightholm will remove stitches. Bruising and swelling will significantly lower within this time frame, too. Patients typically wear a surgical garment during this period.
The final results of a face lift become clear within four to six weeks. Patients can look forward to continuous improvement over several months.*
*Brampton Cosmetic cannot guarantee that swelling and bruising will be reduced within two weeks for all patients. Actual results may vary.
The hospital will not allow any patient to leave via taxi or Uber. A friend or relative must accompany the patient home after surgery.
All you need to bring with you is your health card and the consent forms that were specified by the office at the time of your pre-operative appointment. Please do not bring any valuables with you day of surgery. Make sure to have the contact information of the person picking you up.
