5 Tips for Choosing the Right Sized Breast Implants

Today women have more choices than ever when it comes to breast implants. Implants come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and profiles to help you achieve the appearance you’ve been imagining and get breasts that look and feel amazing, full, and natural.

With so many options available to you, how do you decide which breast implants will be right for you?

1.   Consider How You Want Your Breasts to Look

The best results create harmony, giving you natural-looking breasts that match your body’s frame. Don’t get hung up on precise measurements when thinking about what you want your breasts to look like after breast augmentation surgery. Remember, 300cc implants in a patient with small breasts will look very different than they would in a patient with large breasts.

Focus instead on the shape and proportions you want and envision how you’d like your breasts to look with implants. Your cosmetic surgeon will work with you to find the implants that will be right for you based on the look and cup size you desire.

2.   Ensure Your Breast Implants Will Suit Your Lifestyle

When choosing breast implants, it’s important to factor in your lifestyle and fitness routines. If you’re an avid athlete, you need to find breast implants that will let you continue to work out hassle free.

Take into account factors including:

  • Implant Size: If your breast implants are too wide or large, they can interfere with how you move your arms. In general, small to moderately sized silicone gel implants will be the lightest and be less likely to hinder movement.
  • Implant Placement: For athletic women, it is often best to place the implants under pectoral muscles. This will help with stability.
  • Recovery Time: Athletic women can generally expect to heal more quickly due to their excellent cardiovascular health, though you’ll still need to plan to take at least 6 weeks off from any strenuous physical exercising – including intense workouts after your breast augmentation.

You should work with a cosmetic surgeon who understands how important fitness is to you. Be open with them about your expectations so they can provide honest guidance that reflects your unique needs – helping you choose breast implants that will let you maintain your active lifestyle.

3.   Find Breast Implants that Fit Your Body

Your body will have its own limitations that will affect your choices:

  • Breast Width: This measurement is taken from the inside of your cleavage to the outer part of your breast. In most cases, an implant about the same or slightly narrower than the width of your breast will be the best fit.
  • Breast Tissue Thickness: Women with thicker breast tissue are generally better able to accommodate wider implants, as their skin will be less prone to stretching and rippling over time.
  • Skin Laxity: You need to make sure you’ll have enough tissue to adequately cover the implants and conform to your new shape.

Ideally, implants should be proportional to your body shape and type. Going too big can warp your body’s proportions, especially for petite women, and can cause complications down the road including sagging, back pain, or increased risks of capsular contracture.

That being said, don’t be afraid to try bigger implants and be honest with your cosmetic surgeon if that’s the look you want. What matters at the end of the day is that you’re happy with the changes you see in your body. Your cosmetic surgeon will work with you to find harmony between what your body will allow and the look you envision.

4.   Try Breast Implants On For Size

One of the most important – and fun – appointments you’ll have with your consultant and cosmetic surgeon is for implant sizing. You’ll wear a bra that fits a range of shapes and sizes to help you see how each implant will transform your silhouette.

To get the most out of your sizing session, you should:

  • Wear a low-cut, light-coloured shirt. The colour will accentuate your curves, and the cut will let you see cleavage.
  • Try on a range of sizes. Whether you think they’re too big or too small, see how they look. Knowing how you don’t want to look will help decide the look you do
  • Ask the consultant for her feedback. She’ll have a wealth of experience helping women find the right size, and she might be a patient herself.

It’s important to remember that breasts won’t look exactly like what they do with implants placed outside, but trying them on for size will help you get a sense of final results.

5.   Work with an Experienced Cosmetic Surgeon to Find the Best Breast Implants for You

It’s important to work with an experienced cosmetic surgeon who can help you explore your options. Be open and honest with them so you can discuss the approach best suited to your unique needs. Having an informed, positive outlook about your breast enhancement procedure will ensure you’ll walk away feeling satisfied and enjoying your transformed figure for years to come.
