Cancerous Lesions in Brampton
Common skin cancers include squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma and melanoma. If left untreated, squamous, and basal cell carcinoma can cause local tissue damage. Additionally, melanoma can spread through the lymphatic system and bloodstream and create new tumours. Basal cell carcinoma lesions may appear as flat, brownish, or flesh-coloured, scar-type lesions or a bleeding scab that heals and then comes back. Squamous cell carcinoma lesions may be scaly, crusty, flat lesions. Melanoma lesions can appear as small lesions with irregular borders and colours like red, blueish-black, pink, or white. Melanoma may also appear as painful, itchy, and burning lesions or dark lesions on the palms, soles of the feet, tips of fingers and toes or in mucous membranes. Pigmented lesions that do not have a uniform colour are more common in patients with fair complexion that have had a lot of sun exposure

The Treatment Process
Most lesions can be excised under local anesthesia. The tissue is then sent to a pathologist to confirm diagnosis and confirm margins are clear. If margins are clear or negative, it means there are no cancer cells on the outer edges of the removed tissues. The healing process for the wound depends on how it was removed and the size of it, but it should heal within 3 to 6 weeks. You may require stiches or in some cases just a bandage. Some scarring may appear as the result of the excision.
