Lipoma Removal

Lipoma Removal in Brampton

A lipoma is a round or oval-shaped lump of fatty benign tissue that grows just beneath the skin. It moves easily when touched but is not typically painful.

Lipoma is usually harmless and is typically detected in people who are middle aged. You can have multiple lipomas, and they can be found anywhere on the body, most commonly on the neck, shoulders, back, arms, thighs, and stomach area. They are usually small, soft, and situated under the skin. Treatment or lipoma removal is not always necessary; however, if you are bothered by it, it is painful or it is increasing in size, you may want to consider lipoma removal.

While lipomas can appear after an injury, their cause is still unknown. People with some inherited conditions are more susceptible to their formation. If the lipoma is irritating, painful, or continues to grow, your doctor may recommend lipoma removal.

With proper lipoma removal, reoccurrences are uncommon.

The Treatment Process

Following an assessment consultation with Dr. Sleightholm, the lipoma removal procedure will be scheduled.

  • Local anesthesia will be administered and, while the patient may feel some pressure or pushing, they should not feel any pain.
  • Once the area is numbed, the doctor will make an incision to remove the tissue.

Post-procedure, there may be some slight tenderness where the lipoma removal occurred, but this will reside within 1-5 days. There is no need to take time off work.
