What Is Rhinoplasty?

Reshaping the nose is the most common cosmetic surgery across the world. This is partially due to the procedure’s range of purposes.

Cosmetic nose surgery can be done to:

  • Reduce or increase nose size
  • Change the shape of the nose tip or bridge
  • Narrow nostril span
  • Alter the angle between the nose and upper lip

Plastic nose surgery can also be done to fix an injury or birth defect, as well as relieve breathing problems.

What to Expect Before and After Rhinoplasty

Before the procedure, most candidates simply look to improve nose appearance. However, Dr. Sleightholm also performs it to address uncomplicated nasal problems.

After nose surgery, patients can look forward to an attractively-shaped nose that is proportioned to other facial features.

The final result typically becomes clear in about a year, though that will vary between patients. It takes roughly this amount of time for tissue to soften and swelling to subside.

Frequently Asked Questions about Rhinoplasty

How is rhinoplasty done?

Patients meet Dr. Sleightholm and a qualified consultant for a consultation. Together, you will discuss your expectations and desired outcomes. This conversation helps determine the procedure’s potential results.

Dr. Sleightholm will make small incisions either inside or between the nostrils to begin the nose surgery. He then reshapes bones, cartilage, and soft tissue to adjust size and contour.

Cosmetic and plastic nose reshaping operations usually take two hours. However, complicated procedures may take longer.

Will the procedure leave a scar?

Scars are not noticeable after rhinoplasty.

During a standard procedure, Dr. Sleightholm makes incisions inside the nostrils. For complex procedures, he makes the incisions between the nostrils. Surgery that focuses on the tip of a nose may use either of these approaches.

Will the procedure hurt?

Patients receive rhinoplasty while under local or general anesthesia. After the procedure, you may feel moderate pain. However, it is easily controlled with medication.

Are there nose reshaping surgery risks?

There are certain risks associated with cosmetic nose surgery. You can contact Dr. Sleightholm with any concerns you may have.

Procedure-related risks may include:

  • Numbness:Patients should not be alarmed if the tips of their noses feel numb. This feeling goes away.
  • Swelling:The final surgical result many not be clear for a few months, since swelling takes time to subside. If a touch-up is needed, it will happen at least six months after the initial procedure.
  • Nose Breathing Difficulties:Due to swelling, it is normal to have trouble breathing through your nose.
Will I have to take time off work or my daily routine?

Patients will leave the clinic with an external split. Dr. Sleightholm usually removes it in a week. Bruising and swelling disappears within two weeks.

Patients can resume all normal activities after healing is complete, as their appearances return to normal.
