After having a baby, many moms think about a tummy tuck procedure to treat some side effects of pregnancy.
Loose muscles and sagging skin, along with other changes to the way your stomach looks, can affect how young and healthy you feel. Understandably, these physical side effects can also impact your self-esteem.
Talking to an experienced cosmetic surgeon and surgical consultant will help you learn what a tummy tuck can do for you, but here are five ways the procedure generally treats post-pregnancy issues to help moms look and feel better:
1. Excess Skin Removal
Your stomach’s skin can lose elasticity and sag after giving birth. Unfortunately, if this happens to a certain extent, diet and exercise cannot return it to the way it once looked.
But a tummy tuck involves stretching skin – and removing what isn’t needed – to smooth out folds and create a firm appearance. This makes your stomach flatter even if you’ve gone through a few pregnancies, helping your body look like it did before giving birth.
2. Tightened Abdominal Muscles
In the same way that it affects skin, pregnancy can weaken abdominal muscles. They may feel looser and heavier than what you’re used to, making your stomach lose definition.
Tummy tucks surgically tighten the muscles, helping your stomach look more flat and toned. And if stretched muscles have caused an issue with your posture after giving birth, tightening them may also help you sit and stand straight!
3. Wearing Fitted Clothing
With excess skin and loose abdominal muscles altering your stomach’s appearance, many women shy away from wearing fitted tops like they did before pregnancy. Depending on your wardrobe, you may even be inclined to buy a whole new selection of looser clothing.
By flattening your stomach, a tummy tuck can help you pull off tops that complement your figure – not hide it. Many shy moms are even comfortable wearing bikinis after recovering!
4. C-Section Scar Treatment
Delivering a baby through a C-section procedure will leave a scar that runs across your pubic bone, or from your navel to pubic mound, often times leaving what’s referred to as a “pouch”.
Undergoing a tummy tuck a few months after having your last child can soften the scar, and flatten that “pouch”, making your stomach look as unblemished as possible. It can do also do the same to some abdominal scars from other surgeries.
5. Boosted Confidence
Many women grow insecure after giving birth, since they want their bodies to look like they did before getting pregnant.
Moms often regain lost confidence when they treat physical issues by getting a tummy tuck. Having a smooth stomach makes you appear younger and healthier, helping you become more comfortable with your body.
The procedure can certainly benefit the way you look and feel after having a baby, but the only way to learn how a tummy tuck will specifically affect your body is by talking to a qualified cosmetic surgeon and surgical consultant.
